Value of the SIIM Annual Meeting

By J. Raymond Geis, MD

The SIIM Annual Meeting is a supercharged imaging informatics innovation incubator. It’s the focal point for industry leaders - new and established, large and small - to network with each other and with their most expert users. This allows the group to hash out new solutions and chart courses that move beyond traditional medical imaging IT. That’s the definition of innovation.

Clinical Imaging Challenges

By Chris Meenan, CIIP

I am still excited by the energy and enthusiasm at the SIIM Regional Meeting in Philadelphia last month. With both familiar and new faces, the meeting provided the opportunity to talk with a wide range of colleagues working to improve medical imaging and clinical workflow.

Philadelphia Regional Meeting Recap

By Tessa Cook, MD, PhD

How can computer systems be used to solve the problem of decreased interpersonal interaction between physicians? That was just one issue being debated during the first SIIM Regional Meeting held on the East Coast. On March 18, 2013 in Philadelphia, the topic of the day was clinical and operational informatics.

EHR is the Easy Part?

By J. Raymond Geis, MD

A new EHR implementation is not a divorce, it's a brain transplant. It sucks the air out of the room. Even as that occurs, however, look now beyond EHR implementation to the next phases of IT needs, because that is where you find the ability to manage successfully a capitated risk ACO contract. John Hamalka, a required-reading blog in health care IT, describes this next phase as ACO=HIE+analytics.

Medical Imaging Market Trends and Managing Knowledge (Part 2 of 2)

By Don Dennison, Scott Griffin, BSRT(R), CIIP, and James Whitfill, MD

Given the trends identified in the previous blog post, those SIIM members involved in both the strategy and the tactics of their organization will need to ensure that they have the knowledge and skills to define and achieve new objectives.

SIIM's future

By J. Raymond Geis, MD

Recently SIIM started a formal strategic plan. It was a stimulating process, and made me realize how much we do, and the unique role SIIM plays in healthcare IT as well as medical imaging . SIIM is well positioned to be an important source of expert education and influence during this exciting time for medical imaging and healthcare in general.

Medical Imaging Market Trends and Managing Knowledge (Part 1 of 2)

By Don Dennison, Scott Griffin, BSRT(R), CIIP, and James Whitfill, MD

There are trends in medical imaging that will affect imaging informatics. SIIM members need to understand them and adapt their knowledge to participate in the changes.

The Next Big Thing

By David Brown, CIIP

Have you ever thought that archiving is about Just a Bunch Of Disks? It’s an easy assumption, and an incorrect one. Archiving is much more complex than JBOD, and is not about disks alone. Archiving includes disks, tapes, solid state storage, and much more. Archiving has a rich history, a history of technology and strategies. The challenge of archiving is that it is not only about the storage medium, but also about how data is managed.
